Bratton Seymour cider

BRATTON SEYMOUR CIDER

We make delicious naturally sparkling, bottle-conditioned cider in Somerset under the name of Bratton Seymour Cider. We think these have a distinctive West Country character that is rarely captured. All the fruit is hand-picked, pressed, blended and bottled by us using local cider apple varieties such as Yarlington Mill, Dabinett, Stoke Red, Redstreak, Cadbury Redwing and many more. We pick fruit from two adjacent orchards of owned by the legendary Cheddar cheesemaker Jamie Montgomery. These orchards are 50 years old or so and grown in fertile sandy-clay loam typical of South Somerset. Interestingly, a local archaeological survey conducted in focused on the nearby Cadbury hill fort established deposits of up to 40m thick Oolite limestone; a sequence of sedimentary rock laid down during the Middle Jurassic. We feel that this unique combination of tree maturity, geological features and nutrition provided by the dairy cows that graze the orchard, results in an extremely complex, rich juice, capable of making really special cider.
